Our Respect for HRH Queen Elizabeth II

Getting “Closer to the throne!”

As a five year old boy watching a Movie Tone News film of the Coronation of HRH Queen Elizabeth II I was so overwhelmed and impressed with the glittering pageantry and ceremony of the event and our beautiful Queen wearing that wonderful crown of King Edward on her slim shoulders, and so closely resembling my mother (IMHO) that I asked Mum if I could go forward to pay her homage and kiss her. Mum whispered ” it’s moving pictures” which brought me back down to earth.

Then during her first visit as Queen to New Zealand in 1953-1954 and seeing her slowly trundle by on the last carriage of the Royal Railway Train waving just to me (it seemed) en route from Wellington to Masterton via Lower Hutt, where we lived in January 1954, waving to us as the train glided by with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh standing by her side a vision which burnt a recurring image in my mind and a resounding love for her in my heart.

My cousin Peter Blaiklock had the honor of being the young Policeman assigned to her security and he was often the only one ‘on duty’ looking after the Royal Couple.

But maturing one begins to understand the legacy the Queen represents and boyhood admiration turns into an enduring appreciation for what the symbolism of The British Royal Family actually delivers to the peace and prosperity of those nations lucky enough to be Constitutional Monarchies under her governance and the jurisdiction of the Westminster System of Government. To claim it has not served us well is to turn a blind eye to history and to fail to look at the huge number of failed Republics which could have survived under the Westminster System. In fact with Dame Marie Bashir ask yourself “how many Republics would I prefer to live in rather than to live in Australia?” and with the obvious answer -“none!” ditch the idea of a Republic!

For sixty three years Australasia has enjoyed this second Elizabethan era and the security it has afforded our solid and stable Constitutional Monarchy which is fully endorsed and appreciated by Australian Opal Cutters and Australian Pearl Divers who, on the last four visits to Sydney of members of our Royal Family have had the privilege and are pleased to have been invited and able to contribute in the presentation to The House of Windsor no less than four opal and pearl gifts to HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and HRH The Duchess of Cambridge which were gifts commissioned by The Australian Monarchist League.

Letters of appreciation have been received signed from HRH The Duchess of Cornwall on behalf of her and the Prince of Wales and from HRH Prince William The Duke of Cambridge on behalf of him and HRH Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge.

For the Blaiklock family this follows a long tradition of allegiance to the Crown dating back earlier than the thirteenth century as our ancestors from the House of  Musgrave of Eden Hall and before supported William the Conqueror and setting up in Cumberland consistently serving in the House of Commons upholding the Viking ‘First Among Equals’ principles that curtailed the Roman Empire system of the all powerful ‘never to be opposed’ Emperor system.

We give unqualified support to our Constitutional Monarchy because it has served us well, is serving us well and that is conclusive evidence it will continue to serve us well!

If it is not broken then it does not need to be fixed!
